SNOW HILL -- Dorothy Corbett Kearney died Monday following several years of declining health.
The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Rev. Jack Mays officiating. Committal will be on Thursday morning at 11 at Mewborn Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Kearney was born in Wayne County and was a graduate of Goldsboro High School and Crumpler's Business School. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, accepting employment outside the home after the death of her husband, Stephen Lyman Kearney Jr. Mrs. Kearney moved to Goldsboro to care for her mother, the late Bertha Turnage Corbett, and remained until her own health began to decline.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kearney was preceded in death by her father, Luther C. Corbett, and a brother, Norman E. Corbett.
She is survived by one son, Gerald McDonald Underhill, and his wife, Lucy, of Goldsboro; two daughters, Barbara Kearney Skipper of Snow Hill and Joan Kearney Stancil and her husband, Don, of Kinston; seven grandchildren, Sherry Underhill Sauls of Hood Swamp, Jerri Underhill Mooring of Fremont, Stephanie Hemby Setzer of Taylorsville, Michelle Hemby Chambers of Kinston, Kimberly Ann Hemby of Kinston, Christie Stancil Howell of Fuquay Varina and Jane Stancil Walton of Wilson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service tonight
