MARY W. SMITH

ONAMIA, Minn. -- Mary W. Smith, 87, formerly of Goldsboro died on May 17 after a long illness.

She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She worked in the insurance business for many years and served as president of the N.C. Insurance Women's Association. She was an active volunteer in many local organizations, including the Soup Kitchen, Herman Park Center and Wayne County Home Extension Club. She also served as a reading mentor for Goldsboro City Schools.

Her survivors include two sons, Joseph Wood of Clearwater, Fla., and Michael Smith of Asheville; daughters, Gladys Reynolds of Hillman, Minn., and Patricia Smith of St. Paul, Minn.; and nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Lancaster, S.C.
