ZESTA JONES
Zesta Merita Boone Jones was born November 15, 1944, to the late Mary Boone in Pollocksville, North Carolina. She departed this life on April 19, 2005.
A product of Jones County public schools, she attended secretarial college upon completing high school. She soon be came a young military wife by marrying her high school sweetheart, Eddie Jones Sr. This loving union produced three children, Renee, Eddie Jr. and Zesta.
During this time, she traveled extensively with her husband of 42 years, accompanying him both in the United States and overseas. She worked with the Army Air Force Exchange Services in Oklahoma and Germany for several years.
One who believed that education continues outside of the classroom, she was instrumental in the education of her children and grandchildren. She instilled in them an inquisitive nature and always insisted that they do their best at all times. She will be remembered most for her strength, courage and strong love for her family. She made it her life's work to make sure that her family was prepared to be successful in life.
Baptized in Clinton Chapel Memorial Church as a child, her adult life represented a strong belief that God was her friend. Upon returning to North Carolina, she became a member of Hill's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher.
Zesta's mother, Mary, and daughter, Zesta, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Eddie Jones Sr.; children, Renee Taylor (Stan) and Eddie Jones Jr. (Releata); grandchildren, Schereeya and Scherita Taylor; sisters, Barbara Alston, Teresa Holt (Ray), Brenda Kinsey, Ronda Boone and Janie Goods (Tarry); brothers, Melvin Boone and David Boone Sr. (Deborah); brothers-in-law, Isaac Jones Sr. (Minnie), Donald Jones (Betty Jean), John Jones III (Loyce) and Leslie Jones; aunts, Della Hill, Hattie Mattocks (Colon), Laura King, Doris Mack, Carol Mattocks, Creola Warner and Rosie Williams; special friends, Dora Black, Wade and Jeanette Jones and Felicia Sassonne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, on Friday from 7 until 8 p.m.
