GEORGE DAVIS
NORFOLK, Va. -- George William "Scoopie" Davis, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 27, at his home in Norfolk.
He was born in Goldsboro and was the son of the late George K. Edwards Sr. and Violet Davis. After graduating from Wayne County Public Schools, he enlisted in the United States Army and served tours of duty in West Germany and Vietnam. He worked for W.D. Rose Manufacturing for several years before moving to Hilton Head, S.C., and later to Norfolk.
He is survived by two daughters, Shavonda Leavelle of Chesapeake, Va., and Tammy Taylor of Portsmouth, Va.; one son, Lorenzo Leavelle of Virginia Beach, Va.; his stepmother, Ellen Edwards of Goldsboro; five sisters, Sharon Lassiter of Washington, D.C., Mary Anderson, Inez Baldwin, Shirley Bradsay of Goldsboro and Sarah Edwards of Fayetteville; three brothers, Larry Edwards and George W. Edwards Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., John Edwards of Chesapeake, Va.
A graveside funeral, with military honors, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va., under the direction of Carlos Howard Funeral Home.
