SARAH BEST DAVIS
Sarah Best Davis, 87, died Friday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A lifetime resident of Goldsboro, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of Sarah Louise Best and John Lee Best. She was born November 28, 1917. Mrs. Davis was educated in the Goldsboro City Schools and attended Peace College. A member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Mrs. Davis served as president of the Women of the Church and chairman of the Altar Guild. She also served on various committees of Wayne United Way. She was a lead teacher at WAGES Head Start for many years.
Mrs. Davis was married to Daniel Wilborn Davis Jr. who preceded her in death and is survived by two children, Sarah Ann Parker, of Goldsboro, and Daniel Wilborn Davis, III, and wife Margaret of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, John B. Parker Jr. of Raleigh and Elizabeth D. Parker of Washington, D.C., Julia W. Davis and Margaret W. Davis (Wils) of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Barbara Fonvielle of Goldsboro, Bettie Gray Browne of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Martha D. Schofield of Chapel Hill, seven nieces and nephews, Kenneth R. Davis, George H. Davis, Pembroke D. Brownie, Sheppard D. Browne, John L. Browne, Mary B. Howell, Barbara B. Strong and Barbara F. Vinson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary James Best and a brother, John Lee Best, Jr.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 10:30 Tuesday morning with the Rev. Eugene Carpenter presiding. The family will receive friends at the home of Sarah Ann Parker, 302-A Hillcrest Drive on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m.
