KIRBY WOOD JR.
LAGRANGE -- Kirby Whitford Wood Jr., 66, of 4996 Bear Creek Road, died Wednesday at his residence.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. The Rev. Greg Stancil will officiate. Entombment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Wood was the son of the late C.W. and Cynthia Brittain Wood. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Gregory Wood. He was a member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church and had been paper carrier with The Kinston Free Press for the past seven years. He was a dairy farmer for several years and worked for 13 years at Coastal Wholesale Company.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Newell Wood; two daughters, Heather Wood Sheffield and husband, Gray, of Magnolia, Denise Wood and special friend, Mark Wetherington, of Kinston; two brothers, Earl Wood and wife, Jean, of LaGrange, Carroll Wood and wife, Helen, of LaGrange; five sisters, Peggy Whitley of Bethel, Dalthia Eason of LaGrange, Marjorie Warters and husband, Tom, of LaGrange, Mary Ann Smith and husband, Paul, of LaGrange, Linda Taylor and husband, Wilbur, of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Lauren Wood, Hailey Sheffield and Grace Sheffield; a great-grandchild, Brandon Wood Potter; and the family dog, Pudgy.
Friends will be received tonight from 7 until 9 at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
