ADA GRIFFIN

WILSON -- Ada Catherine Brewer Griffin, 76, died Thursday at her residence.

She was born in Wilson County on March 28, 1928, to Lucinda and Selby Brewer Sr. Mrs. Griffin earned her bachelor of art's degree from Atlantic Christian College and her master's degree in math from East Carolina University. She also attended Duke University, where she studied archeology, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her teaching career in Wilson County in 1951 at Gardners school. She also taught at RM Wilson Junior High in Rocky Mount, Charles B. Aycock High School in Pikeville, Norwayne Middle School Wayne County, and Wayne Community College at Goldsboro, where she retired in 1987 as a math professor. She was past president of Wayne County Chapter of North Carolina Educators Association. Her hobbies were reading, flower gardening, and photography.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Morrison Griffin of the home; her mother, Lucinda Bass Brewer of Wilson; two sisters, Jean Williams of Wilson and Janice Phillips and her husband, Edgar, of Pleasant Gardens, N.C.; a brother, Selby "Tommy" Brewer Jr., and his wife, Gretchen, of Wilson; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive friends at a night of remembrance from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Thomas-Yelverton at Evergreen Memorial Park Funerals and Cremations, 2704 Nash Street North, Wilson, 252-243-4100.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Homecare & Hospice, 2860-C Ward Blvd., Wilson, N.C., 27893.
