THELMA WARREN
NEWTON GROVE -- Thelma Denning Warren, 93, of 301 Fayetteville St., died Thursday.
Mrs. Warren the eldest of six children, was born September 19, 1910, to the late Martin and Minnie Kenne Denning of the Grantham community. She was a high school graduate of Bizzell Grove School in Wayne County. She attended Women's College at UNC Greensboro and graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. Mrs. Warren retired after serving the town of Newton Grove as Postmaster for many years. In prior years, she taught school in Sampson and Wayne counties, and worked with the Wayne County Department of Social Services.
She was an active member of Pleasant Union Christian Church throughout her life. She was a charter member of Chapter 267 Order of the Eastern Star and was also a member of the AARP, Newton Grove Woman's Club, and the National Association of Postmasters.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy E. Warren of Newton Grove; sister, Geneva D. Strickland of Herring; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Warren.
A funeral service, followed by visitation, will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Pleasant Union Christian Church in Newton Grove with the Rev. Joe Wingfield officiating. Burial will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery.
