DEWEY POWELL
Dewey L. Powell, 79, of 1407 N. Berkeley Boulevard, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Norman Ard and the Rev. Earl Glenn officiating.
Mr. Powell was born in Wake County to the late Moses E. and Myrtie Honeycutt Powell and was married to the late Leila Casey Powell. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, First Free Will Baptist Church, Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 and the New Hope Ruritan Club. He was retired from civil service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
He is survived a son, Dewey Powell Jr. of Goldsboro; two brothers, Samuel E. Powell of Princeton and Moses Everette Powell Jr. of Flagler Beach, Fla.; a sister, Edna P. Holt of Highland Springs, Va.; and two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home of Goldsboro and at other times will be at the home.
