CYNDIA B. POPE
PORTSMOUTH, Va. -- Cyndia Boswell Pope, 81, died Saturday at Maryview Medical Center.
A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Mary Boswell of Nahunta and the widow of Raymond T. Pope. A United States Army veteran of World War II, she was stationed at Fairfield Air Force Base in the Women's Air Corps (WAC) specializing in communications. She was a member of West End United Methodist Church and was active in the Sunday school department and in the United Methodist Women as long has her health permitted. She was also senior activities coordinator for the City of Portsmouth Parks and Recreation Department.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Rackley.
Her survivors include a daughter, Jean Rackley Arsement of Chesapeake, Va.; a son, Richard Earl Rackley of Okoochobee, Fla.; a sister, Ida Lane of Nahunta; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held today at 4 p.m. at Sturtevant Funeral Home., with the Rev. Scott Rimer officiating and military honors accorded by the U.S. Army. The family will remain afterward to receive friends until 6 p.m. Private burial will be on Thursday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
