DAVID THORNTON
FAISON -- The funeral for David Leon Thornton, 70, of 500 Marsh Kornegay Road, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Royal-Hall funeral Home. The Reverends Linwood Conner and Glenn McCullen will officiate. Burial will be in Thornton Family Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Sampson County and was the son of the late Andrew Goodrick and Tempie Boyette Thornton. He retired as a mechanic with Worthington Ag Parts of Goldsboro and was a former member of Smith Chapel Fire Department and Mount Olive Rescue Squad. He was a lifetime member and former chaplain of the Suttontown Rescue Squad, which he was instrumental in forming. He also was a member of Goshen Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gaynell Lollis Thornton; one daughter, Tammy T. Sutton of Faison; one son, Randy Thornton of Faison; four sisters, Daisy t. Oursler and Wilma T. Vaughn of Faison, Hazel T. Martin of Goldsboro and Sybil T. Jones of Selma; four brothers, Kenneth Thornton of Dover, Fla., Hubert Thornton of Fuquay-Varina, Billy Carter of Mount Olive and Jimmy Carter of Newton Grove; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Royall-Hall Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suttontown Rescue Squad, 5680 Suttontown Road, Faison, 28341.
