IRMA J. ROWE
PIKEVILLE -- Irma Jean Barwick Rowe, 69, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Gladys Broughton Barwick and was married to the Rev. J. Rudolph Rowe. A graduate of Garner High School, she also graduated from Wayne Memorial Hospital Nursing School. A LPN, she was previously employed with Wayne Memorial Hospital and as an industrial nurse with Barry of Goldsboro. A member of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville, she served as the WMU director, a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Adult Choir.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Sasser and the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Catherine and Kenneth Gardner of Pikeville and Lynne and Tommy Herndon of Pikeville; a son and daughter-in-law, William Thomas and Vivian L. Rowe of Dudley; a brother and sisters-in-law, Oscar Jr. and Alease Barwick of Pilot and Gwen Barwick of Raleigh; sisters, Eunice Chalk of Knightdale and Mary Joyce Esancy of Wendell; and five grandchildren, Clay and Crystal Gardner, Elizabeth Rowe, and Reagan and Trent Herndon. She was preceded in death by a son, George Oscar Rowe; and a brother, Braxton Barwick.
Family members greeted friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
