TREAT BROWN

SELMA -- Treat Brown, 83, died Saturday at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Born June 27, 1920, in Johnston County to the late Chares Preston and Flonnie Rose Brown, he was the widower of Edith Hawkins Brown who died on Jan. 11, 2000. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Eddie Brown, Ossie Brown, George Brown and Doc Brown. Treat was a member of the Pleasant Plains Free Will Baptist Church. A retired farmer and U.S. government tobacco grader, he had worked with the Soil Conservation Office and the N.C. Wildlife Commission for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the VFW.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Parris Funeral Home in Selma with the Rev. Cliff Harwood and Dr. W. Burkette Raper officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.

Surviving is his daughter, Diane Brown Riley of Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends today from 4 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home and from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday just prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Treat and Edith H. Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund at Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
