W. ADOLPH HOWELL
William Charles Adolph Howell, 81, of Countryside Assisted Living, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Milton Mills and Bob Adcock officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Julia Anderson Howell and brother of the late Robert J. Howell, Johnnie C. Howell, Essie Mumford and Emma Webber. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II as a member of the 101st and 116th Calvary. He was a member of Goldsboro Gospel Chapel since 1957 and had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and Trustee Chairperson. He was a member of the American Legion Post 296, Squadron C in Brooklyn, N.Y., Veterans of Foreign Wars, Travelers Protection Association and the Republican National Committee. Mr. Howell retired after 38 years with Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company and later transported cars for many local car dealerships. He was an avid New York Yankees fan since 1952.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Rouse Howell; three daughters, Marie McLaren of Danville, Calif., Patricia Brunkhurst of New York, Sheila Myers of Kenly; and nine grandchildren.

Family members will greet friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Sheila Myers, 106 Traders Mill Run, Kenly, N.C., 27542.
