EDWARD SHINGLETON
STANTONSBURG -- Edward Ernest Shingleton, 84, died Friday in Raleigh.
He was a native of Stantonsburg and was the son of the late William W. and Mattie Cook Shingleton. He was the former co-owner of Shingleton Funeral Home and was a World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific and European Theaters.
Survivors include two sons Daniel Shingleton of Elm City and Roger Shingleton of Wilson; a daughter, Gail Lewis of Wilson; four brothers, Dr. William Shingleton of Durham, Dr. Hugh Shingleton of Atlanta, Roddy Shingleton of Richmond, Va., and Foy Shingleton of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Louise Shivers of Augusta, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stantonsburg Cemetery with the Rev. Max Patterson officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are with Thomas-Yelverton at Evergreen Memorial Park Funerals and Cremations, 2704 Nash Street North, Wilson.
