Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 Junior Leadership Program.
The program was a vision of the Leadership Wayne Class of 1998-1999. It started with the goal of exposing high school juniors to the many job opportunities in Wayne County and has evolved over the years to include team building and leadership skills exercises.
Since its inception 19 years ago, it has graduated 386 students.
It is also one of the many programs funded by dollars raised during the annual Dancing Stars of Wayne County fundraiser.
Participants will begin the program with a one-day orientation and then spend six days throughout the year focusing on a variety of topics. They will have opportunities to visit places involving local government, industry, health care, history, education, military, arts, leisure, community service and agri-business. The students will learn more about the community and about career opportunities they may not have considered and gain a firsthand look into Wayne County.
Junior Leadership Wayne County is open to all high school juniors who attend public, private, home school or parochial schools located in Wayne County. Applicants must have a solid "B" or above average and demonstrate leadership in school and/or community activities. The application deadline is Sept. 20. Applications are available at all high schools in the county, or online at waynecountychamber.com and the Chamber office on William Street. For more information, call Janet Brock at 919-734-2241.
