Videll Alexander Wright is led into the Wayne County Detention Center Wednesday for the murder of 17-year-old Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr.

Two men were arrested and charged Wednesday with murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr.

Wayne County sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old Devon McCollum, of 210 W. Green St., in Snow Hill, and Videll Alexander Wright, 19, of 104 Sedgefield Drive, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

McCollum and Wright were each handed down multiple charges including one count of open murder. McCollum and Wright were each charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony discharging a weapon into occupied property, felony conspiracy to commit robbery, discharge firearm into occupied property and murder.

Both were placed in the Wayne County Detention Center, without a bond for the murder charge. McCollum and Wright were each given a $500,000 bond for the other charges.

As McCollum was being led into the Wayne County Detention Center, he told the Goldsboro News-Argus the charges were "bogus."

On Aug. 11 at approximately 10:59 pm, the Wayne County Communications Center received a 911 call asking for assistance following the shooting. Deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched to the area of 332 Sanderson Road, in Seven Springs, where they found Leroy suffering from a gunshot wound. Leroy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation. Maj. Richard Lewis, with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, said additional arrests are possible.

On Wednesday, McCollum was also charged with felony possession of cocaine and felony maintaining a dwelling for cocaine. His bond for the charges was set at $5,000. Wright also faced additional charges, including with a traffic and controlled substance violation. His bond for the charges was set at $2,745.
