The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for east central Wayne County until 9 p.m., as heavy rain continues to fall across the area.
The NWS issued the warning at 5:53 p.m., stating that Goldsboro, Walnut Creek, Elroy and Mar-Mac are at risk of flash flooding.
"At 5:53 p.m. EDT, Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly, especially in and around the city of Goldsboro," the NWS wrote in the warning.
Excessive runoff from the heavy rain is expected to cause flash flooding of creeks and streams, roads, low lying and poor drainage areas. Many roads and intersections in the area will quickly flood, according to the warning.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the road. When encountering flooded roads, turn around, don`t drown.
