Man dies after being struck by vehicle

A 79-year-old Goldsboro man died after being struck by a vehicle on N.C. 111 early Sunday morning.
Howard Lee Birdwell Jr., of 210 Spring Creek Road, was crossing the highway near Dollard Town Road at 1:16 a.m., when he was struck by a 2002 Cadillac Escalade traveling south on N.C. 111, said First Sgt. John Bobbitt, with the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Birdwell was killed on impact, Bobbitt said.
The driver of the Cadillac, Alex Alphonso, 50, 1103 W. Washington St., Kinston, is not facing any charges, Bobbitt said.
