The Local Government Federal Credit Union has selected Meredith Westbrook Futrelle to receive a scholarship for higher education.
Futrelle plans to use the scholarship to study at University of Mount Olive. She is one of 120 high school seniors and post-secondary students to receive a scholarship. The awards are being provided to students attending a university, community college or technical college.
"This is the 20th consecutive year we have offered this scholarship," said Maurice Smith, chief executive officer of the Local Government Federal Credit Union.
"It's still a real pleasure to reward these fine adults for not only getting top-notch grades, but also for finding the drive to take active roles in their communities. We applaud them and wish them luck in their studies and beyond."
Scholarships are awarded to students with significant achievements in extracurricular activities and academic excellence by maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
