Goldsboro Police Chief Michael West issued a notice of city ordinance regarding the discharging of paintball guns within the city limits.
"Be advised, the firing of a paintball guns within the city of Goldsboro is illegal and a direct violation of city ordinance," West said. "If property is damaged during the firing of a paintball gun, the violation is considered damage to property and you will be cited accordingly.
"If an assault occurs during the firing of a paintball gun, the individual responsible will be charged accordingly. All incidents concerning the illegal use of paintball guns within the city of Goldsboro will not be tolerated and will be investigated and charged through the criminal justice systems," West said.
The city's ordinance regarding firearms and air guns states that it is unlawful for any person to shoot or discharge or to cause to be shot or discharged -- within the city -- any firearm, air rifle gun or pistol or any spring gun, pistol slingshot or similar device, which impels with force a shot or pellet. There are exceptions if the weapons are used for personal defense and allowable under state law. Also, at military funerals and other public events and under the supervision of the Police Department. Weapons are also allowed on a firing range, if the property has a conditional use permit approved by the Goldsboro City Council. The conditions are included in the city's zoning ordinance.
The police chief or any member of the police department is authorized to seize and hold subject to order of court, any air rifle, gun, pistol, spring gun or similar device used illegally in the city limits.
