Fremont town clerk charged in embezzlement probe

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has charged former Fremont Town Clerk Martha Jones, 46, with embezzling thousands of dollars from the town, according to an SBI press release.
According to the release, the SBI opened an investigation into Jones in September 2017, during which they determined that she embezzled $5,000 from Fremont Town Hall while working there.
Representatives from the SBI and Fremont Town Administrator Barbara Aycock could not be reached as of press time. This story is developing and more details will be added as they become available.
