The N.C. State Highway Patrol says a woman was killed before 6 a.m. Monday morning after she was hit by a tractor trailer traveling in the wrong lane on U.S. 55 West near Pineview Cemetery Road.
Crystal Ann Robinson, 37, of Cornerstone Drive in Seven Springs, was traveling westbound on U.S. 55 when her Saturn Vue was hit head-on by a tractor trailer.
Trooper J. M. Holloman said that the driver of the tractor trailer, Jimmie William Grady, 55, of Surry Court in Jacksonville, was attempting to pass a van and he had a double solid line when he hit Robinson. Holloman also said that it appeared that both drivers attempted to avoid the collision, but turned in the same direction.
The force of the wreck drove both cars off of the roadway and trapped Robinson's car under the cab of the tractor trailer.
Robinson was on her way to work at Burger King in Mount Olive, and Grady is a contract driver who was hauling mail for the U.S. Postal Service.
Grady is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and improper passing.
