The third annual Dance for Cures will be held April 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Acme Theatre in downtown Goldsboro.

The event pairs cancer survivors with ballroom dance professionals to raise money for Southeastern Cancer Care's Cures for the Colors. Money goes to patients in Eastern North Carolina going through treatment for cancer to help with food, utilities, gas, clothing and other needs.

Dance for Cures was the brainchild of Norman Hooker and his wife and dance partner, Ella Mae. He continued teaching up to the final four weeks of his life before passing away from bone cancer.

Organizing this year's fundraiser are Carl and Joy Williams with Top Hat Ballroom Dance Studio, a subsidiary of the nonprofit Heritage Dance Foundation.

Providing music before the event starts will be Alex Asbun on piano.

Act I will consist of a group dance BCA shuffle, Dr. Teague and Courtney Horton doing the cha cha, Dr. Charles Zwerling and Margo Smith doing a waltz, Carl and Joy Williams doing a shag, Alice Adams and Andrew Holt doing a waltz and Carol Nesbit and Eddie Sturges doing a shag.

Act 2 will consist of Dr. Charles Zwerling and Kirsten Rae Edel doing a quickstep, Joe and Debbie Parrott doing a nightclub two step/foxtrot, Jayden Keasling and Jo Ann Barbour doing a samba/cha cha, Josh and Rachel Creech doing a waltz, Alice Adams and Richard Handsene doing the swing and Dr. Charles Zwerling and Taylor Barwick doing a foxtrot.
