A free seminar will be offered in April based upon sending a powerful message to the community -- "Remaining Positive in a Negative Environment."
Everlasting Investments is spearheading the three-hour event on Saturday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m. at the LBJ Multipurpose Building, 1007 S. John St., said Edward Harris Jr., founder and CEO.
The structured program will feature speakers on topics from education and the job search to giveaways and a catered dinner.
"We're coming together to show love, compassion and unity to the community," Harris said. "We want them to see that we believe in action.
"We want to hit anybody that wants to be educated, wants to be motivated."
Harris has enlisted grassroots support from those with a passion for helping others turn their lives around.
People like William Sessions, a motivational speaker and founder and CEO of BFF, Best Foot Forward Inc., a non-profit organization. His involvement was spurred by the jarring headlines he has seen in recent years.
"There are statistics that Goldsboro is the fifth poorest city in America and the 36th highest in crime," he said. "So the whole evening or afternoon of this event is to show that even with statistics, that it's not a death sentence.
"Good can still come out of Goldsboro."
Sessions is just one part of the program, with each presenter having his own powerful message to share.
"We'll have different speakers, talking about their businesses, about their life," Edwards said. "We'll have speakers that have been incarcerated, one that has a powerful marriage story. We just want to show the God that's in us, that all these tragedies, God turned around for them."
The messages will be interspersed with opportunities to ask questions, learn more about local employment opportunities and education and college options, as well as giveaways and other resources.
Harris said he had partnered up with Kelly Young, a talk show host who also has an acting school in Atlanta. When she learned about his efforts, Harris said she agreed to provide acting lessons in Goldsboro this summer.
"We're going to select 10 youth, from the age of 12 to 18, we're going to do a drawing and will be offering two classes, eight hours each, on a Saturday," he explained.
