Filing concludes Wednesday at noon

The filing period for most offices to be decided in November's midterm elections ends at noon on Wednesday.

The primary will be held Tuesday, May 8, and the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Also, the primary election one-stop voting schedule has been unanimously approved by the Wayne County Board of Elections.

One-stop voting will be held April 19 and 20 and April 23 to May 5 at the Wayne County Board of Elections office, 209. S. William St.

The election will include four seats on the Wayne County Board of Education.

District 6 member Rick Pridgen has filed for re-election and is being challenged by Wade Latham. Both are from Goldsboro.

As of Friday, District 1 member Chris West of Pikeville and District 4 member Jennifer Strickland of Goldsboro were unchallenged in their re-election bids.

Joe Democko of LaGrange has filed in District 5 where incumbent board member Arnold Flowers is not seeking re-election.

School board races are nonpartisan.

Democrat Raymond Smith and Republican Robert E. Freeman, both of Goldsboro, have filed for the N.C. House of Representatives District 21 seat now held by Democrat Larry Bell of Clinton, who has announced he will not seek re-election.

Smith currently serves as the at-large member on the school board.

Republican David Rouzer of Wilmington is seeking re-election in U.S. House of Representatives District 7. Democrats Grayson Parker of Goldsboro and Kyle Horton of Carolina Beach also have filed for that office.

Justin L. Minshew has filed as a Democratic candidate for Wayne County Clerk of Court. Clerk Pam Minshew, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election. Justin Minshew is her son.

Filing for re-election are:

* Sen. Louis Pate, a Republican, of Mount Olive, N.C. Senate District 7.

* Rep. John Bell of Goldsboro, Republican, N.C. House of Representatives District 10.

* Sheriff Larry Pierce, Republican.

* District Attorney Matt Delbridge, Republican.

Filing for judicial offices is scheduled for June 18 to 29 in the wake of legislation eliminating judicial primaries.

Filing is June 11 to July 6 for Soil & Water Conservation District supervisor (two members' seats).
