Looking for a fun, free and beneficial way to spend a little time this Saturday morning?
Walk, just for the health of it.
A "Heart Healthy Walk" will be held at Berkeley Mall on Saturday from 7 until 9:30 a.m.
The premise is simple, says Tyjuana Atkinson, coordinator of the event, sponsored by the Goldsboro alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Show up wearing comfortable shoes and get ready to strengthen your heart and improve the quality of life, she said.
"We always try to do something for the community and this is part of our physical and mental health initiative," Atkinson said. "All we're concerned about is that people walk for their heart. We want people to walk to strengthen their heart and be healthy."
This is not a fundraiser, or a benefit, other than to those who take part, she said.
"You just walk in, someone will be there to register you," she said. "We'll have water and healthy snacks for them.
"It's an annual event -- start your morning with us."
It costs absolutely nothing, except time.
Participants can spend 15 to 30 minutes inside the mall, walking the perimeter, or can take breaks as needed.
Mall walkers who do this regularly can jump on the bandwagon. Individuals and organizations can also take part.
This is considered an annual event for the sisterhood sorority, Atkinson said.
"It's free and open to everybody in the community," she said, with one addition this year. "The person or organization that brings the most people will be awarded a trophy.
"We're hoping to do two awards -- one for the organization that brings the most people and one for the person that brings the most."
