A Friday morning mobile home fire has claimed the lives of two people.

It appears that both victims were attempting to get outside of the residence.

A male was found close to the front door and a female was located near the back door.

Rosewood, Belfast, Little River and Oakland volunteer fire departments were dispatched to 1717-A U.S. 70 West around 9:04 a.m. Friday.

The fire departments arrived and began extinguishing the fire at the single-wide mobile home.

Upon making entry into the home to perform a search and extinguish the fire, firefighters located the bodies of a man and woman.

The bodies were removed from the scene and taken to Wayne UNC Health Care.

A positive identification of the two victims is pending.

The Wayne County Fire Marshal's Office, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.

The assistance from the SBI is standard procedure when a fire death occurs.
