The Wayne County Public School System has announced dates for makeup days after schools closed due to snow and ice last week and early this week.
For schools on the traditional calendar, Feb. 19, originally a teacher workday, will become the district's first makeup day. Three early release days, Jan. 31, Feb. 28 and March 21, will become full days in order to recover lost instructional time. March 30, originally a holiday, will become the second makeup day.
Three schools, Northeast Elementary, Grantham Elementary and Grantham Middle. were closed due to utility issues on Jan. 2. Northeast Elementary and Grantham Middle will get credit for the closure, as students reported to school and were sent home. The closure for Grantham Elementary will be waived, as the closure was called before students reported to school.
For the three schools on the non-traditional calendar -- Goldsboro High, Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne Early Middle College High School -- Feb. 19 will also be the first make-up day. March 9 and 30 will be the next two, with the Jan. 3 closure of WSE and WEMCHS to be waived.
