A Dudley area man has been charged with stealing the family puppy and selling it in order to buy drugs.

The puppy has been recovered.

Christopher O'Neal Eakes, 41, of 295 Club Knolls Road, Dudley, has been charged by Wayne County sheriff's deputies with larceny of a dog and placed under a $2,500 unsecured bond.

On Jan. 1, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office completed a larceny report of an 8-week-old Yorkie puppy stolen from a residence on Club Knolls Road.

The detective division began an investigation which revealed the stepfather of the victim allegedly sold the puppy in order to buy drugs.

Deputies went with the victim to recover the puppy.

The family that purchased the puppy was not aware that the dog was stolen, deputies said.

The family has a young daughter who had grown attached to the puppy, and when the victim saw that the puppy was in a good home the victim decided to leave the dog with the family.
