With the help of Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne, the Alriyashi family cuts the ribbon on their new home on Patsy Lane in Goldsboro. A left is Ammar Alriyashi; clockwise from top are daughter Nasreen, 12; mother Azlan; daughter Layal, 7, and son Mohammed, 4. On the porch behind them is Matthew Whittle, of Habitat; and Linda Biser. At far right is Thetis Hoch, Habitat board president. The four-bedroom home is the 75th to be completed by the Goldsboro-Wayne Habitat affiliate, and it is part of the State Employees Credit Union's Mountains-to-the-Sea Challenge, to build a Habitat home in each of North Carolina's 100 counties. The Foundation has put up $10 million for the Challenge.
Once the homeowners assume a zero-percent mortgage through SECU, the funds are returned to the affiliate so that another home can be built.
