MOUNT OLIVE -- A community meeting on plans to build two Habitat for Humanity houses in Mount Olive will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center.

Information will be provided about Habitat, how to get involved when the time comes, fundraising efforts and possibly about the future homeowners

The meeting is being sponsored by Habitat Goldsboro-Wayne and the Mount Olive Partners for Habitat.

The two groups are planning to build two new homes in Mount Olive for low- to moderate-income families.

These homes -- numbers nine and 10 in the Mount Olive area -- will be built at 202 W. Pollock St. and 108 S. Chestnut St.

Construction on the first home is scheduled to begin in spring 2018, with the second home beginning in fall 2018.

The fundraising goal for the two homes is $86,000 -- $43,000 for each house.

"We just want to update local folks as to where we are and hopefully announce the families," said Matthew Whittle, executive director for Habitat Goldsboro-Wayne.

The meeting will be a time for people to ask questions about the project, including when volunteers will be needed, Whittle said.

The Rev. Lula Newkirk, of Helping Hands United Mission, and the Rev. Jonathan Altman, pastor at Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, are project co-chairs.

The Rev. Steven Wicks, pastor at Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, is chairman of the fundraising committee.

Partners for Habitat of Mount Olive is a loose-knit organization made up of churches, businesses, clubs and individuals.

Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne over the past several years with Mount Olive Partners for Habitat built seven houses -- six in town and one in the Beautancus community southeast of town.
