The Wayne County Sheriff's Office filed charges against a teenager Thursday they say is responsible for the altercation that sent Eastern Wayne High and Elementary schools into a temporary lockdown Wednesday.
Darius Jermaine White, 17, of 315 Randall Lane Apt. C, is charged with felony possession of a gun on a school campus, simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree trespassing.
The schools went into lockdown after a fight about a block away from the high school campus ended in shots being fired.
White was involved in the commotion, and then ran onto the high school campus afterward, officers said. A school resource officer quickly apprehended the teenager, after the school had already been placed on lockdown.
Sgt. Brandy Jones said White was a former student at Eastern Wayne High School.
Four people were detained immediately following the incident. Jones said nobody else had been charged in the incident as of press time.
Law enforcement searched for a possible fifth suspect immediately after the fight. Jones said there did not end up being a fifth person involved in the fight.
White was put in jail under a $7,000 secured bond.
