Mechatronics Day at WCC April 27

One of the newest programs at Wayne Community College will be showcased during Mechatronics Day on Thursday, April 27.
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of science that includes mechanical engineering, electronics, systems engineering and control engineering. At WCC, students can earn a certificate or degree to prepare to be an automation technician who designs, builds, tests, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies automated equipment and systems.
Second-year students in the program will unveil their capstone project, a fully automated manufacturing system built from the ground up.
Stephen Knotts, industrial systems instructor, said it is the first such project in the state. The display will be open to the public that day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., in the atrium of the Wayne Learning Center, the main building at the entrance of WCC.
Tours of the labs will also be offered at 11 a.m. and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Included in that tour will be the Robotics and Electronics Lab, Hydraulics and Controls Engineering Lab, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) Programming and Automated Systems Engineering Lab ,which features a Festo mechatronics system with Fanuc Robots.
An open house for potential students will cap off the day. It will be held 6-8 p.m., also in the Atrium, and will include tours of the facilities.
