Bark for Life, a new fundraiser for Relay for Life, will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Old Waynesborough Park on U.S. 117 Bypass.
The family event is free and open the public, says organizer Nancy Howell Autry, who encourages dog owners to bring their four-legged loved ones. On a leash and up-to-date on their vaccinations, she added.
"This is a fundraiser event honoring the lifelong contributions of our canine caregivers and canine cancer survivors," she said. "It's a large event with several rescue groups with pets for adoption, a vet on site offering rabies shots and microchips."
There will also be groomers and trainers, as well as dog obedience demonstrations, plus face-painting, games for kids, music, and food and craft vendors.
A survivor walk for canines and their owners will kick things off at 10 a.m., Ms. Autry said.
A dog costume contest is scheduled for noon. There is a $10 registration, with a potential $50 first place prize.
There will be a Zumba class at 1 p.m.
Other highlights include a photo booth, luminary sales and a car show by Scrapin By Auto Club. Cat and dog food donations are also welcome for homeless animals.
All proceeds collected will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
