Wayne County Public Schools announces adminsitrative changes

Several administrative changes were made by Wayne County Public Schools this week, including an interim principal being named at Mount Olive Middle School and two returning district retirees.
Tammy Keel, principal at Mount Olive Middle since 2010, has been named the new SIG Specialist at Carver Heights Elementary. She will oversee the five-year, $1.3 million School Improvement Grant, or SIG, recently awarded to the school.
Prior to being principal, she had been assistant principal at Brogden Middle and Grantham schools. Her move to MOM marked a return to the school where she had begun her career, as a teacher, in 1999.
Stepping into the role as interim principal at the middle school will be Na-Tale Nelson. She has served as the school's assistant principal since 2010.
Mrs. Nelson's career in education began in 1999, as a teacher at Carver Heights Elementary and then at Carver Elementary.
She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in school administration from Fayetteville State University.
"Mrs. Nelson is a highly effective assistant principal and I appreciate her willingness to take on this new role mid-year," said the district's superintendent, Dr. Michael Dunsmore.
"My administrative team looks forward to working with Mrs. Nelson through this transition. I believe her educational background and administrative experience with the school will allow her and the staff to continue building upon the school's current success."
The administrative shifts were approved during Thursday's Board of Education meeting and will take effect Tuesday.
Other personnel changes included two retired principals returning to the fold.
Richard Sauls will serve as interim assistant principal at Mount Olive Middle, and Mary Kay James was named the SIG specialist at Brogden Middle, overseeing the five-year, $1.3 million School Improvement Grant recently announced for that school.
Sauls has served as principal at a number of WCPS schools, including Carver Heights and Fremont elementary schools, Greenwood and Norwayne middle schools, Southern Wayne High School and all three Rosewood schools.
Mrs. James had previously been principal at Rosewood Middle School and since retirement had been a success coach at Mount Olive Middle.
