Deputy earns school resource officer certificate

Willliam Lee Kates Jr. of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office recently completed the school resource officer certificate at the North Carolina Justice Academy. He is one of 163 officers to earn the certification since the program began.
The program is designed to recognize the achievement of law enforcement professionals who have dedicated themselves to making schools safer. It requires 400 hours of training.
