The cost is $8 per plate for fish, potato salad, slaw and hush puppies.
"There is always some interesting going on with Shriners Hospitals for Children," George Raecher, fish fry chairman. "They are working now with research cartilage involving stem cells and gene therapy. That information on this research can be found by going to Shriners Hospitals for Children website (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org). Our burn centers continue their research in 'growing skin.'
"Our Greenville hospital has seen a steady increase in new patients. There are now six orthopedic physicians assigned. Sudan has 580 patients being treated for a variety of needs. We have approximately 20 patients here n Wayne County. We still have our Roadrunners who transport those families to and from their appointments."
Shriners Hospitals for Children have also received some assistance/partnerships with two airlines -- United and Southwest Airlines.
"They are very instrumental in the patients being flown to our Shriners Hospitals for Children, for example in Montreal where needed when ground transportation is not feasible or available," Raecher said.
Over the past 15 years the Wayne County Shrine Club Fish Fries have raised approximately $280,000 for this unique health care system for children, Raecher said.
