PIKEVILLE -- A fire broke out in the kitchen at El Texano Family Restaurant in Pikeville Saturday afternoon.

The fire began in the exhaust hood in the kitchen of the restaurant, said Pikeville-Pleasant Grove Fire Department assistant chief Jared McPhail.

"Everything is good as it can be," he said. "It's not in the kitchen. It's actually trapped in the exhaust hood, from what we're thinking. At this point, we're trying to decide whether we want to tear that exhaust hood out or see if it'll go out on its own."

"We're hoping it will go out on its own. We want to do as little damage as we can, so the owner doesn't have such a great expense," he said.

Pikeville-Pleasant Grove and Belfast firefighters arrived after they received a call around 5:45 p.m., McPhail said.

McPhail said there were no people inside the restaurant when they arrived. He said no one standing outside of the restaurant had any injuries.

The restaurant opened on Aug. 4, and is located at the intersection of 117 and Goldsboro Street.
