A renovation project at Wendy's restaurant on North Berkeley Boulevard is nearly complete with a re-opening planned this week.
Site preparations have also started for a new Wendy's in the Rosewood community.
Remodeling of the 108 N. Berkeley Blvd. started in July in an effort to update the store to a more modern design, inside and out.
The restaurant is in the final stretch of the project, said Brian Pardue, Wendy's construction manager.
"We're planning on reopening September the 14th," Pardue said.
Crews started working on the building in July and the business remained open through most of the project, which involved interior remodeling, the addition of new furniture and other improvements.
In late August, a chain-link fence was added to the entrance and the restaurant closed for remaining work, including the addition of a new facade. Employees were moved to other stores during the process, Pardue said.
Construction on a new Wendy's restaurant, at 101 N.C. 581 near the U.S. 70 intersection, will start this month, with an expected opening by the end of the year, Pardue said.
Site preparations started in early September for Goldsboro's third Wendy's location.
A 2,615-square-foot restaurant will be built on a 1.3-acre property in the Shoppes of Goldsboro, near Walmart.
"The new store is slated to open by mid-December," Pardue said.
Even though Wendy's stores are being remodeled across the country, the Wendy's restaurant on Wayne Memorial Drive is not planned for an upgrade, Pardue said.
