Sunday in the Park to remember 9/11

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Unity organization's annual Sunday in the Park will remember the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Organizers decided that should be the theme for the ninth annual event since it will fall on Sunday, Sept. 11.
It will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. at Westbrook Park.
A color guard from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will participate, and Patricia Nadeau will sing the national anthem.
There will be a balloon release followed by a moment of silent prayer in memory of 9/11, said Sheila Oates, one of the organizers.
Mount Olive Mayor Ray McDonald Sr. will also speak.
Live entertainment will include the group One Accord.
There will be inflatables and face painting for the children.
The Shriners Choo Choo from Wilmington will provide rides for adults and children from 2 to 4 p.m.
There will be zumba and bingo as well, Ms. Oates said.
A voter registration booth will be set up also, she said.
The Drummers World Drumline of Goldsboro will close out the celebration.
There will be plenty of free food including chicken tenders, hot dogs, french fries, pizza donated by Pizza Village, ice cream, popcorn and doughnuts provided by Krispy Kreme.
"This is for the community to come out and enjoy and fellowship with each other," Ms. Oates said.
Those who attend should bring lawn chairs, she said.
"There is no rain date so we are hoping for good weather," Ms. Oates said.
