The Paramount Movie Nights series will start Sept. 25 and the new Performing Arts Series will kick off Oct. 9.

There is a variety of movies planned for this year.

"A lot of times we look at is it a big anniversary year for a movie, were there Academy award winners, or favorites of staff or our outreach committee," said Paramount director Sherry Archibald.

On the schedule for this season are:

* "Gone With The Wind" Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.

* "E.T." Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.

* "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

* "It's a Wonderful Life" Dec. 22 at 7 and 10 p.m.

* "Gandhi" Jan. 2 at 3 p.m.

*" Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

* "Spaceballs" March 7 at 7 p.m.

Tickets for each movie are $5, with children 12 and younger free. A Paramount movie pass, which includes all seven movies, is $35.

"We hear a lot of comments from our patrons that it's a fun family night and it's cheap," Mrs. Archibald said. "And we sell popcorn and beverages."

The Performing Arts Series starts with Nnenna Freelon Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Six-time Grammy award-nominee Nnenna Freelon has earned a reputation as a compelling and captivating live performer. She made her feature film debut in the Mel Gibson hit "What Women Want" and sang a remake of Sinatra's classic, "Fly Me To The Moon" for "The Visit," starring Billy Dee Williams. She has performed and toured with jazz greats like Ray Charles and Ellis Marsalis to Al Jarreau and George Bensons.

Caribou Mountain Collective will be on stage Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Winners of the 2014 Rockygrass Bluegrass Band Competition, Caribou Mountain Collective is a quartet from Nederland, Colo. Its extensive original repertoire channels the rich traditions of both Appalachia and Colorado bluegrass.

Parsons Dance will perform Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. It is New York City-based modern dance company, internationally renowned for creating and performing contemporary American dance of extraordinary artistry that is accessible and enriching to diverse audiences.

"The things they do with light and photography gives an illusion of the dancers flying," Mrs. Archibald said.

Just in time for the start of the Christmas season, the North Carolina Symphony will present its annual Holiday Pops Concert Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.

It will feature a variety of holiday favorites.

Actor and comedian Tim Meadows will be on stage Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. He is one of the longest running cast members on "Saturday Night Live," where he served for 10 seasons.

Wayne County's own "The Malpass Brothers" will be in concert Jan. 29 at 3 p.m.

The Malpass Brothers are as authentic as stone-ground grits, country ham and red-eye gravy, hush puppies and chopped pork barbecue. It doesn't matter if you're already a fan of classic old-time "real" country music when you take your seat, you will be by the time you leave the theater.

Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. will be Wayne County Jazz Showcase, featuring Vincent Gardner.

After singing, playing piano, violin, saxophone and French horn at an early age, he decided on the trombone at age 12.

Josh Lozoff: Life is Magic is up next March 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Lozoff, who is from North Carolina, has been studying and sharing magic around the world for more than 15 years. Recently, he was one of only two magicians invited to perform at the World's Fair in Japan.

Concluding the series will be James Gregory: The Funniest Man in America May 12 at 7:30 p.m.

He has been making people laugh, not just throughout the United States, but around the world, for more than 30 years. In addition to thousands of personal appearances at theaters, corporate functions and clubs over the years, he is continually being heard by millions as a regular and popular guest on numerous, nationally syndicated radio programs.

Individual ticket prices for the series shows vary from $18 to $38. A build-your-own series ticket for three or four performances gets you 15 percent off individual ticket prices. A build-your-own series ticket for five or more performances gets you 15 percent off individual ticket prices. A full series package gets you more than 25 percent off individual ticket prices.
