A silver Toyota Corolla rests upright in the middle of a soybean field having flipped once after over correcting while traveling upwards of 70 miles per hour around a turn on Tommy's Road on Saturday.

A man suffered minor injuries Saturday after hitting a ditch on Tommy's Road near Beverly Drive and flipping his car into a field.

Justin Hassan Washington, 18, of Pikeville, was reportedly going 70 miles per hour around a curve on Tommy's Road near Beverly Drive when he hit a ditch and flipped his car into a field.

Washington's car stopped in a field between Beverly Drive and Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church after flipping one time and traveling 164 feet, North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper C.S. Grainger said.

The Toyota Corolla Washington was driving had a busted out windshield and damage to the roof and body of the car after flipping into the field.

Washington was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was released.

Washington was cited for exceeding a safe speed.

Patetown Volunteer Fire Department initially responded to the crash and conducted traffic control until the highway patrol arrived on scene.

No other cars were involved in the crash.
