A wreck on N.C. 111 South near Dollardtown Road sent three people to the hospital Wednesday night. The driver of the van pictured above reportedly ran into a vehicle stopped on the side of the highway at 55 miles per hour.

A two-car wreck on N.C. 111 South just before Dollardtown Road sent three people to the hospital Wednesday night.

A small, four-door Saturn sedan stopped on the side of the road just after 9 p.m. to pick up someone traveling on foot.

While the car was stopped, a Dodge Caravan, traveling at roughly 55 miles per hour, did not see the stopped car and rear-ended the car.

The driver of the van, Teirra Williams, 21, the driver of the car, James Kelly, 46, and Kelly's passenger, whose name was not released by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, were all taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Ms. Williams was charged with failure to reduce speed, and Kelly was charged with leaving a vehicle stopped on the right of way of the highway.

El-Roy Volunteer Fire Department Engine 1, Engine 4 and Truck 1, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Wayne County EMS and Wayne NET responded to the scene Wednesday night. Traffic heading north on N.C. 111 was briefly diverted at Dollardtown Road so the scene could be cleared.
