Janie Jaberg

Janie Jaberg, who for the past two years served as vice president of regional operations for Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, is the new president and CEO for Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The appointment by the hospital board is effective in early November.

"We are extremely fortunate to have found a person with Janie's experience and impressive, broad-based track record," hospital board Chairman Jim Parker said. "We believe she will be a great fit for Wayne Memorial Hospital and our community as we continue our journey with UNC Health Care, and we are happy she has chosen to come here."

Bob Enders has served as interim president since the first of the year following the retirement of Bill Paugh last December.

On Dec. 30, 2015, the hospital signed a managed services agreement with UNC Health Care, the state-owned not-for-profit integrated health care system based in Chapel Hill.

The search for a new president began shortly after that.

Enders is an employee of UNC and president of Chatham Hospital in Siler City, part of the UNC Health Care Network Hospitals.

A Charlotte-based consulting firm assisted with the search for a full-time president that attracted national attention, hospital officials said.

Mrs. Jaberg began her career as a registered nurse in the operating room and advanced to administrative positions during the course of her career.

"My No. 1 passion is our patients and providing them with the best possible care, and that takes teamwork and commitment," Mrs. Jaberg said. "I want our teammates and physicians to work in an environment where they are fulfilled professionally and their patients are well cared for, and I want our community to have faith and trust in our organization, to know they can come here and receive exceptional care close to home."

Mrs. Jaberg said she believes in taking an active role in her community and plans to become involved in local civic and volunteer organizations.

"I'm excited about joining the team at Wayne Memorial Hospital and being part of the Wayne community," she said.

Prior to her operations role at Carolinas HealthCare in 2014, Mrs. Jaberg was CEO of Medwest Health System/Haywood in Waynesville, one of three campuses within its system managed by Carolinas HealthCare.

Haywood is a 169-bed, not-for-profit organization that encompasses an outpatient care center, on-campus fitness center, two urgent care centers, a stand-alone, six-bed inpatient hospice center and a physician network of 41 providers across five locations.

Earlier, she served as system chief operating officer at Muskogee Regional Medical Center (now EASTAR Health System), a two-campus health care center in Muskogee, Okla., that combined a 320-bed hospital system, an outpatient imaging center and part ownership of an outpatient surgery center.

She was responsible for all hospital operations and seven system-owned physician clinics.

From 2008 through mid-2011, she was CEO at East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, S.C., a 130-bed acute care facility owned by Tenet Healthcare.

Under her leadership, the hospital had the highest patient satisfaction scores within the Tenet group in both 2009 and 2010 and received six Gold Seals of Quality from The Joint Commission, the nation's oldest and largest independent, nonprofit accrediting organization.

While CEO, she oversaw construction of a new hospital.

Other positions she has held are include CNO, COO, CEO at Community Health System/Triad; COO at Trinity Hospital of Augusta, Ga.; CEO at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio; and CNO, COO and CEO of Doctors Hospital of Stark County, also in Massillon.

Mrs. Jaberg earned a bachelor's degree in health care administration from St. Joseph's College and a master's degree in business and health care administration at Central Michigan University.

She earned her nursing degree at Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing, Akron City Hospital.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and was the recipient of the organization's Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent's Award in 2002.

An Ohio native, Mrs. Jaberg is married to Clair Jaberg and has two daughters and two granddaughters. Lauren Sigler and husband Chris live with their daughter in Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Julie Nowicki and husband Ryan live with their daughter in Olmstead Falls, Ohio.

Wayne Memorial Hospital is a 316-bed community, not-for-profit hospital, which has been serving residents in Wayne County and surrounding areas for more than 120 years.

It operates under a management services agreement with UNC Health Care.
