There were two reports of shots being fired in the city limits early Thursday morning that were detected by the city's new ShotSpotter system, and one man was arrested in connection to one of the incidents after allegedly shooting two vehicles in the area of Vanderbilt Circle.
In the first incident of shots being fired, ShotSpotter initially alerted officers that three shots had been fired at 140 Dupont Circle around 12:30 a.m., but officers were advised by citizens once they got to the scene that shots had been fired in Vanderbilt Court.
Officers checked the area and discovered two cars that had been damaged by gunfire. Eyewitnesses advised police that they believed the shots were fired from a silver Dodge Dart.
Officers tracked down the vehicle on North William Street and arrested Trayviar Shawntawn King, 26, of 204 hideaway Circle, Dudley, who was subsequently charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits, felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance, driving while impaired and two counts of property damage.
King was given a $10,000 secured bond and placed in the Wayne County Jail.
The second report of shots being fired came from 1900 Day Circle, when officers were alerted by ShotSpotter that a single shot had been fired at that address just after 1 a.m.
Officers responded and walked the entire area near 1900 Day Circle, but found no evidence of shots being fired.
