Crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation have closed a section of Hooks Road in Wayne County this week in order to construct a new bridge.
Construction on the bridge, which runs over Nahunta Swamp Creek and is located north of Goldsboro, is expected to take approximately four months.
An on-site detour is in place. Motorists can get around the road closure by using Robert Peele Avenue, U.S. 117, Main Street and Nahunta Road.
The repair or replacement of aging bridges is an integral part of Gov. Pat McCrory's 25-Year Vision for transportation in North Carolina. Gov. McCrory's budget for 2016-2017 increases repair and replacement funding for bridges by 58 percent, totaling $242 million.
The Department of Transportation reminds drivers to slow down and use extra caution when approaching the work zone.
