A Wayne County sheriff's deputy car was damaged and two people were arrested Thursday afternoon after deputies pulled a car over on Ash Street that subsequently backed into a deputy's car and reportedly had three pounds of marijuana inside.
The incident happened at the Speedway gas station at 400 E. Ash St. after deputies followed a car to Raleigh and back to Goldsboro on the suspicion of drug activity.
Tierea Demon Atkins, 20, and Anqua Jacquel Hooker, also 20, were arrested Thursday afternoon on the drug charges following Atkins' arrest for possession with intent to sell or distribute of marijuana one day earlier.
Following Atkins' release, Sgt. Charles Shaeffer with the sheriff's office said that the office had information leading them to believe that Atkins would soon travel to Raleigh to pick up a larger quantity of marijuana for sale.
Sheriff's deputies followed Atkins to Raleigh Thursday and back to Goldsboro, where they pulled in behind his vehicle in the parking lot of the 400 Ash St. Speedway gas station at around 4:15 p.m. Upon noticing them, Ms. Hooker, who was driving the car, put the vehicle in reverse and rammed into the patrol car.
"I guess she was trying to drive out of there, but she put it in reverse instead of drive and hit the car," Shaeffer said.
The officers then found the marijuana inside the car, and placed the two under arrest.
Ms. Hooker was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle. She was also cited for careless and reckless driving. Ms. Hooker was placed under a $4,000 secured bond.
Charges, if any, filed against Atkins were not immediately available as of press time.
