PIKEVILLE -- Pikeville residents will have a new destination for Mexican cuisine Thursday, Aug. 4 when the Los Texanos restaurant opens at 101 Goldsboro St.
The restaurant will feature both authentic Mexican food and Texas-style dishes, which are generally prepared with flour tortillas instead of corn. In addition to a variety of steak and chicken dishes, Los Texanos will also offer home-made sauces, some spicy and some mild, to cater to many different tastes. The restaurant will also include a kids menu.
Owner and operator Arturo Mota is originally from New York, but has lived in North Carolina for 15 years. He and his family have owned several restaurants in the past, and have a total of 25 years experience in the restaurant business. When the building became available after Danny Ray's Southern Dining closed down earlier this yea, Mota said his friends in the area encouraged him to jump on the opportunity.
"I know a lot of farmers in this area, and they told me about it," he said. "And the previous owner came to me and talked to me about it."
The restaurant is nearly ready to go. Mota said the last week or so before opening day will be dedicated to cleaning up. He said that the building was extremely dirty when he and his family took ownership, and much of the work has been centered around getting it up to an acceptable standard.
"We're ready, we just have to focus," Mota said.
Mota is expecting a busy first week. He said that he has interested people stopping by every day, curious about the new restaurant. To build on this, Los Texanos will offer a 20 percent discount to everyone who visits during the first week of operation. Los Texanos will also offer discounts to seniors, city workers, and police.
Los Texanos will open its doors Thursday, June 4. If you're in Pikeville and looking for something new, stop by and give it a try.
