Son is arrested for death of mother

The son of a woman who was reportedly murdered in her home on Wilmington Avenue early Friday morning has been charged by the Goldsboro Police Department for allegedly killing his mother.
According to a press release from the Goldsboro Police Department, Shontionne Domian Darden, 31, of 306 Wilmington Ave., has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of felony possession of a firearm by a felon for allegedly shooting his mother to death Friday morning around 3:20 a.m.
Darden's mother, 49-year-old Sonya Yvonne Darden, also of 306 Wilmington Ave., was found shot to death inside her home Friday morning.
According to the press release, Darden thought he heard an intruder in the house and fired a shot into the hallway.
The bullet struck Ms. Darden and killed her, the press release said.
Darden has been placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
His first appearance in Wayne County Court is Monday.
